Our Classes

We offer classes for all levels of student experience.

Attending a regular weekly class nurtures discipline and evolves understanding. Students are encouraged to attend consistently in order to develop an understanding of practice, and this is supported by the enrolment system

Courses run in line with the public school term.

Individual sessions are available and can be arranged by emailing the school.

Yoga as Practice

A practice of yoga is conducted outside the instructional forum.

To develop a yoga practice requires patience, consistency and discipline. Self or home practice provides the opportunity for a student to explore what is learned in class. Through practice we experience ourselves in yoga directly.

A teacher can provide support and guidance through the inevitable challenges encountered as we establish a relationship with practice for ourselves.

Fundamentals- 75 min

Students join the Fundamentals level after completing one or two Introductory courses. Focus is given to consolidating a foundational understanding of Iyengar yoga practice at South Ground Yoga

Intermediate Series  90 min

Students are invited to join the Intermediate level by their teacher. At this level, students need to be consistent in attendance: by enrolling in a series of 5 classes over 5 weeks, a student consolidates their understanding of asanas and the group as a whole can progress. Classes regularly work with shoulderstand (salamba sarvangasana), and headstand (sirsasana) is introduced.

Experienced- 120 min

Experienced students commit to regular weekly attendance. Enrolment by 5 week series only. A home practice of yoga to confirm and consolidate work in classes is expected at this level.

Introduction to Iyengar Yoga

This course is attended as a set of 2 classes (3 hours total). Not only for beginners, the course is appropriate for those who have not attended classes classes at South Ground previously, having done Iyengar yoga elsewhere.

Students who have practiced different styles of yoga are required to attend at least one Introductory course for orientation to our method of practice and the culture of the school.

This course is offered twice a term
